It is great to have students and staff back in the building. We are now a school rather than just a building. Everyone has hit the ground running and there is a great deal of activity in the classrooms and throughout the school.
Just the facts - The bus route for PA has been greatly improved and students are now arriving at school by 8:30 each morning. That will allow all classes to begin at that time. The bus will leave the school in the afternoon at 3:35. In order to meet that schedule, students will remain in class until 3:30. Unless there are unusual circumstances, we request that students not be picked up prior to the 3:30 bus dismissal time.
- The elementary students will be attending the Kansas State Fair on September 13. We are still working on the exact detail but I would anticipate meeting at the fairgrounds at about 8:30 and having students being picket up at about 2:30-3:00. More information with specific details will be sent next week. High school students will have a regular school day at PA on the 13th unless they have a specific project that needs to be completed at the fair, These projects will be approved by Mr. Tolle.
- We are planning a highway cleanup project for September 7. This is part of our adopt-a-highway community service project. We are going to try to pick up debris before the State Fair and again after the fair ends. Permission forms and information will be sent with students next week.
- The Pleasantview area now has a tornado warning siren that is located very near the school. It has been tested and the volume level is very good. It is a great safety addition to the school and community. Our school tornado drills will be conducted in conjunction with their monthly tests.
- No School on September 5—Labor Day
Enrollment Information and Numbers We continue to receive and accept new students at Pleasantview Academy. We currently have a total enrollment, on-site and virtual, of more than 100 students. We can effectively handle more students and would welcome additional students. If you know someone who is looking for the type of education we can provide, please have them contact the school. Our on-site enrollment will remain open until September 20 and our virtual enrollment will close on September 10.
VERY IMPORTANT DATE The official date for counting students/enrollment is September 20. The state level of funding for all districts in Kansas is determined by the attendance on that day. Needless to say, it is very important that all students are in attendance on that date. Please contact the school if you have any questions.
Cornerstone News The last couple of days have been filled with writing, math explorations, reading mini conferences, and a science experiment about heat. Do you know why dark clothes make you feel warmer than light clothes? Ask your student!
I have exciting news to share. I’ve started a Cornerstone website! I hope it will be an easy way to stay up to date on happenings in Cornerstone. I will post announcements, a copy of
correspondences sent home, homework and project information, class projects, pictures, and links we use at school. I finally found an easy, free, educational web service that I feel I can update frequently and easily. I am planning to have Mr. Tolle link it to our PA page, but the direct address until that link is established is

As I’ve already sent one newsletter home, I will keep this one short. But I would like to say that I am so excited about the start of this year. The students have been well behaved, fun, inquisitive, and a joy to be around. I’m looking forward to a great year! As always, please call, email, or send a note with any questions or comments.

Virtual High School Welcome back to school! It is good to be working with students again.
• Students received from me a plagiarism policy. I need to have these returned to me with a parent and student signature.
• Right now students are becoming familiar with the new OdysseyWare website. There have been many positive changes that you should be aware of. The most important of these changes is the planner function. Parents can now know of current and past due homework by clicking on the “my courses” tab in OdysseyWare.
• Many students are enrolled in a careers course this year. This course will allow for
• reflection on future goals, skills, and education for the future.
• I have been receiving some very good writing from students and have been impressed with how hard everyone is working. Keep up the good work!

News from the Middle
Middle school math students started the year with a diagnostic test and are now working with fractions and decimals. In science they conducted their first science experiment and presented it to their peers and are now studying Earth Science.

To start the year, each student created graffiti art that shared something about themselves. In Reading, we have read many stories that range from the great Chicago fire of 1817 to mysteries about magic, attics, and UFOs. We are so fortunate to have PE daily. We are beginning to branch out for social studies, but for now, please ask our 5th-8th grade students about latitude, longitude, and the Prime Meridian.

~PA VIRTUAL PROGRAM~
Students in kindergarten through high school, as well as the Diploma Plus Program (our diploma completion option), are off to a great start this year. Enrollment is growing each day and will be open through September 5th.
Students using the OdysseyWare curriculum are getting used to a new format. There have been many changes including a section that helps both parents and students know what lessons should be completed for the day, and what to expect for the week. The overall progress section allows parents to see the percentage of lessons that have been completed as the year progresses. We hope these features help parents as they monitor their student’s progress.
We are excited about new year, and working with our new families as well as our returning ones.

Book Worm News
Once again this year we are having “literary lunchtime” with 10 minutes of reading before going outdoors. Grades K-8 have been in the library to check out the first round of books.
Kudos to students and parents; we only misplaced two books last year, as opposed to 15 or more in past years! Thanks for being extra careful! We have new books on the shelf and more to come, as well as a small rotating collection on the shelves of the cafeteria for lunchtime reading.
Cornerstone is learning some of the ways music can vary and words to use for those variations. We have started with tempo, dynamics, and pitch. We played a dynamics game and are also working on several songs as a group.
Our art time is being used to create a mixed media picture in keeping with the classroom theme “Cornerstone Corral”. We are tearing and layering paper, coloring and drawing details, and adding yarn lariats. The talented cowboys and cowgirls will exhibit their pictures in the Hall Gallery when finished. Stop by and see how they throw a loop!
Spirit and Pride Students were given an envelope with Spirit and Pride written on the outside. Inside is a form with a variety of school apparel items. Tee shirts, Hooded Sweatshirts and Backpack with the Pleasantview Academy logo on them, if you would like to order any of these items return the envelope to the school
by Friday, September 2nd. Include your payment you can use a credit card, check or money order. Please make your checks to
